Client Stories - Alkaline Trio

We recently worked with Dan Andriano of Alkaline Trio and getting 3D impressions during their UK tour, catching up with them at the O2 Institute in Birmingham.
At DCA we don't just work with UK artists, but also multiple international artists and engineers.
So when Alkaline Trio's TM got in touch to ask if we'd be available to get some 3D impressions, primarily for bassist Dan Andriano while they were on tour, we happily arranged to swing by the O2 Institute in Birmingham for the afternoon!

Dan was in need of new shells as his old IEMs weren't quite cutting it and wanted to look at other options.
After a quick consultation to get a bit of background about his setup, his view on taking lead vocals as well as playing bass and his past experiences, it became apparent that like many artists, he hadn't ever had the opportunity to directly A/B different custom in ear monitor models before and usually bought new pairs on recommendation.

So backstage we did a demo where Dan tried several manufacturers and technologies against his current in ear monitors and found the FIR Audio Krypton5 and it's kinetic bass really hit the way he wanted!

So we took a set of 3D impressions and also being a US based musician, we introduced him to the Artist team at FiR Audio. Our relationship with them meant that we could get Dan his new set before the next leg of their tour and he now has both DCA & FIR Audio's support while he's on the road!
Our work with Alkaline Trio included:
-
1:1 Artist Consultation & Demo
-
3D Impressions
-
On-site troubleshooting
-
Artist negotiations

Dan went for FIR Audio Krypton5 customs with matt grey shells and faceplates, with the internal ATOM venting and black RCX cable for a really sleek, monochrome look!

As massive fans of Alkaline Trio we're super grateful to Dan, Matt & Atom for accommodating us on show day and legendary TM, Mr Wilson for thinking of us and asking us along!

Dan's IEMs were delivered 2 weeks later in time for their US tour leg, and we can't wait to catch a show when they come to UK again next year.

If you are an Artist on tour, or know anyone who would like our support, feel free to get in touch with us directly here to see how we could help.
Diagnosing Tour IEM issues
While we were on site in the green room, we met Matt who told us he'd been having trouble with a brand new set of custom in ear monitors. They didn't seem to be working right since the first show and he hadn't had much luck speaking to the supplier in the US as to why they just weren't feeling right and asked for some advice, so we took a look!

We always carry our FIR Audio IEM Doctor, so took a quick reference measurement on our phone of his left and right side and found the mid-range was down significantly (green line), but there was enough low and high frequency information for the monitor to seem like it was working to others who couldn't wear it. This validated Matt's experience on stage and after a bit more troubleshooting a warranty repair was arranged with the band armed with the right information!
